Curriculum

At Albanvale Primary School we follow the Victorian Essential Learning Standards as our guide to the curriculum. These standards describe what is essential for all students to achieve in Prep to Year 10 in Victorian Schools. All the standards are designed to engage students, build their confidence, offer varied approaches to learning and challenge them to achieve.

Enhancing our classroom program is a commitment to providing dedicated time to specialist areas of the curriculum. These include Art, Physical Education and Sport, Library, Vietnamese (3-6) and access to the Learning Centre.

Assessment and Reporting

Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning. There are many ways that teachers use assessment to inform their planning, move the students through developmental stages and ascertain student achievement. A variety of assessment tools are used including, but not limited to: work samples, observation, portfolio tasks, self-evaluation and talking with their students.

Each year families receive two written reports indicating academic progress of their child. They receive these reports at the end of term two and four. Families are given the opportunity to attend a formal parent teacher interview at the end of term two. At the beginning of each year families are also given an opportunity to meet with their new class teacher.

Our Portfolios are a collection of student work that richly represent the learner and provide evidence of learning.  They demonstrate evidence of the student’s efforts, progress and achievements in one or more areas, and illustrate a learning journey.  Your child’s Portfolio specifically focuses on the Personal and Interpersonal areas of the curriculum. We believe that a display of your child’s learning is an effective and comprehensive medium to demonstrate areas of growth in their learning.
