Albanvale Primary School strives to create an innovative and exciting learning environment for its school community.  Our school is co-educational and located in the Deer Park, St. Albans area in the Western suburbs of Melbourne.   The school caters for students from Years P-6 and has approximately 260 students.  Albanvale Primary school has recently undertaken a School Review and is in the process of writing the School Strategic Plan, 2009-2012.

Our vision, Diverse Pathways to Success recognizes and celebrates the importance of child-centred learning approaches.  We believe children learn through open ended activities which allow for individual differences.  We value individuals and recognise that children learn in different ways, through different styles, at different rates and via different pathways.   This will be strongly reflected in our School Strategic Plan in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy.

The school is structured into 4 professional learning teams: Prep, Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4 and Years 5 and 6. We currently have 10 classrooms operating in 2011.

Learning programs are planned and delivered through the work undertaken in Professional Learning Teams.  We believe that teachers learn from each other through professional development, sharing, planning, moderation, discussion and dialogue. Units of work are planned and delivered through these teams who meet weekly to plan learning programs and review school policies.

Classroom programs are enhanced with the support of Specialist Programs which include Reading Recovery, Physical Education, Library, Art, Vietnamese, Performing Arts and ICT.

Our Learning Centre Program focuses on developing students’ creativity and oral language.  Our commitment to this area of student learning was demonstrated by the recent construction of a self-funded purpose built facility to accommodate this program.

Albanvale’s commitment to Student Wellbeing approaches is recognised through a whole school approach to Welfare and Discipline.  We conduct a Breakfast Program, Active After School Communities Program and Fresh Fruit Friday Program.
